In Faulkner's novel Sanctuary, a woman is raped with a corn cob. In Sound and the Fury, Benjy may or may not have been castrated. What was the sponsor thinking, "no profanity or obvious sexual reference" is hardly Faulkneresque at all. Perhaps they simply meant "drink gin until you pass out."
